Under Probate Code §21300(c), an "indirect contest" of a will or trust is a court proceeding indirectly challenging the validity of an instrument (or one or more of its terms) based on any ground other than a ground supporting a direct contest under §21300(b) (above) and that does not contain any of those grounds.
