California classifies employees into broad categories and then declares that a series of rules concerning many different aspects of the employment relationship must be followed by the employer with regard to these employment categories.  Wage orders may specify maximum permissible hours of work, working conditions, the amount of wages due, and rules for overtime compensation, along with a myriad of other things that make up the totality of the working relationship.  If you are an employer you are required by California law to follow Wage Orders that apply to your business and if you are an employee you are entitled to the benefits and protections contained in Wage Orders that apply to your job.  Click here to download examples of Wage Orders.
