The Morgan Stanley Annuity Problem

Annuities pay some of the highest sales fees of any investment, and often times, offer the least benefits to investors, especially elderly investors of limited means.  Because of this, regulators have carefully scrutinized major firms that are the biggest sellers of annuities, with an eye towards protecting elderly investors who have been sold them without the legally required disclosures.  These regulators have found that between June 2003 and August 2004, the Morgan Stanley sold annuities but failed to send customers mandatory prospectuses. Prospectuses disclose risks, and are required, and if they are not provided, the transaction is invalid.

Customers who purchased investments requiring a prospectus will be entitled to get their money back.
